Ward development plan to empower people, says Maipakai

THE launching of the ward development plan is to empower the third tier government, minister for Inter-Government Relations Mark Maipakai said.
Maipakai, who launched the ward development plan in the Western Highlands last week, said the bottom-up planning was the way forward.
Establishing ward development plans could encourage development starting from the council wards.
Maipakai said the initiative was the right direction to empower the ward councillors.
The Western Highlands ward development plan was an initiative of Governor Tom Olga,
Olga said the participation of the ward development committees at the lowest level of government allowed governments at the LLG and the provinces to prepare provincial budgets that could be absorbed at the ward level through prioritised service delivery activities.
